Scholars of Color- Jordan Dykes

What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Jordan Dykes to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Jordan Dykes

Location:  Cincinnati, Ohio

Gender Pronouns: he/him

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): I am a server at an Argentine Steak House

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I would describe myself as a creative, kind, passionate, and loving person. I love making new and genuine connections with like minded people.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about a lot of things. In particular I enjoy acquiring "new" historical facts, particularly about the cultures crossed the African Diaspora. I am also passionate about issues that involve the LGBTQIA community, such as trans rights or the rights of disabled people. Lastly, I will add that I am passionate about being part of the black community and voicing the concerns we have in our community.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: It means being seen as a person and not just some kind of trope or stereotype. It means showing people that BIPOC are complex individuals with intriguing stories to be told. To me, I think it's about BIPOC finally getting a seat at the table, because we deserve it.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Lemon8 at thejd_aesthetic

Anything else you would like us to know?: One of my biggest dreams is to create either a comic or produce an animated TV show featuring BIPOC characters. I don't think we see enough representation for people of color in entertainment. I've seen first hand how entertainment can change people's lives and give them a sense of belonging. That's what I want to do. I want to be a light for those who have mainly seen darkness.

Thank you Jordan for sharing space with us!

Stay tuned everyone for more Scholars of Color profiles. Interested in being showcased yourself? Please email the Scholars of Color team at scholarsofcolor@reclaimingyourhappiness.com and we will get back to you shortly.
