What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Anthony Rodriguez to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Anthony Rodriguez

Location:  Seattle, WA

Gender Pronouns: They/Them

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Seattle Service Corps Fellow

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am a determined, resourceful individual who has that hustle mentality my parents acquired since they were kids. I am a social butterfly who loves to network and meet other people. I am the biggest cheerleader when it comes to cheering on others for success and have the hope to inspire others with my own story.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about working to eliminate health disparities within underrepresented and LGBTQ+ communities. I am also passionate about mentorship towards the younger generation who are facing the same hardships I faced furthering my own education.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: Scholars of Color is empowering to me. I am first generation Mexican American here in the United States. My parent’s migration story continuously motivates me that anything is possible with faith and determination. I’m also a first generation college graduate pursuing medicine within my family. During college, I had to navigate the process on my own and go against many odds. Gaining amazing mentors who had a similar path and who were also underrepresented brought confidence that I can be in their position one day. Scholars of Color is a platform many of us needed growing up, so we may see all the amazing individuals who look like us being showcased and praised for their journey and story. It brings comfort and hope that we can all succeed and create something for ourselves with the support of each other, as minorities.

Anything else you would like us to know?: I love to network and share resources or advice. I am currently in my gap years as a pre medical student in process of getting into medical school. If there are others on the same journey, please feel free to reach out to connect.

Thank you Anthony for sharing space with us!
