Scholars of Color- Luis Resendez

What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Luis Resendez to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Luis Resendez

Location:  Riverside CA

Gender Pronouns: He / Him / His

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Therapist, Author, Professor, and Speaker

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Healer, Educator, Storytelller

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about educating the community about the importance of addressing men's mental health...a subject that receives little attention. This is particularly alarming when being aware that three out of every fourth deaths by suicide is male. I am in particular passionate about address this topic to people in BIPOC communities due to the prevalence of mental health stigma amongst men of color which in turn discourages them from seeking support.

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: A group of outstanding educated people of color who have made strides in the realms of academia and professional settings which in turn has allowed them to contribute to the world at large, as well as towards their own communities. This is encouraging to see as mainstream society and media still fall behind in promoting diversity and inclusion, especially when addressing those educated persons of color who are making a positive difference in the world.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  Email: info@vidasocal.com IG: vidaemotional FB: Vida Emotional Wellness

Anything else you would like us to know?: I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Southern California and founder of Vida Emotional Wellness. Out practice group specializes in trauma and men's mental health issues. I am also a speaker and adjunct professor at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. I recently published my first book (now available on Amazon) entitled, "What About Dad?: Understanding And Addressing Postpartum Depression in Men."

Thank you Luis for sharing space with us!
