What is Scholars of Color?

It is a platform in which scholars of color are purposefully celebrated. It’s a space where scholars of color are showcased front and center. It is a digital space where we feel empowered and resilient. Let us get to know each other. Let us cheer each other on AND show the world what we have to offer.

Let us now welcome Elizabeth Morales to the Scholars of Color space!

Name: Elizabeth Morales

Location:  Salt Lake City, Utah

Gender Pronouns: she/her/hers

What's your current occupation? (i.e. Student, Scientist, Coach, In transition, etc.): Programs Manager for PathMaker Programs at The Huntsman Cancer Institute

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: I am passionate, kind, and enthusiastic person who values human connection and lending a helpful hand whenever one needs it. I love spending time with my family and close friends, walking my pup Max, dancing and singing even if I am not the best at it. I try and take any opportunity to travel and to try new foods.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about creating spaces for students by providing them with equitable resources that serve their community and other historically marginalized populations. Just like those who have mentored me and helped me persist through school. I aspire to be a mentor to students and teachers working towards increasing college access, enhancing the diversity pool of individuals from underrepresented groups interested in pursuing careers in biomedical and cancer-related research

What does the representation of Scholars of Color mean to you?: What representation of scholars means to me is highlighting nuestra gente who despite the odds and barriers are working, managing, and creating positive and inclusive change in our communities. These are scholars who are also uplifting our youth and creating space for those who often are not provided the same opportunities as their peers. If there isn’t space for our people we must be the ones that create those spaces and try to flourish positive change.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabeth-morales-361a7a65

Anything else you would like us to know?: Please feel free to contact me if my story, my work, or anything I shared sparks interest. I love connecting with new people, especially first generation students who have questions about the college process. I would love to help in anyway I can. Estoy aqui para mi gente!

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing space with us!
